SEGD 2016 - Optimizing Exhibits for Digital/Physical Balance

On August 18th, Cortina Productions’ principal and creative director, Stephen Platenberg, spoke at The Society for Experiential Graphic Design’s (SEGD) Exhibition + Experience Design event in Washington, D.C. Under the event’s theme, From Museums to Beyond: Experiences Everywhere, Stephen addressed the topic of how to optimize exhibits for digital/physical balance, answering the following four questions:

  • Is descriptive text on graphic wall panels really needed?
  • How do you design for an experience that is more theoretical and idea based vs. a collection of physical objects?
  • What is the right balance of digital and physical for exhibits?
  • Can you design technology into exhibits that doesn’t look like technology?

A few of the projects discussed in the presentation include the College Football Hall of Fame, George Washington’s Mount Vernon Spy App, and the Henry Ford Museum.
